چکیده

In many extensions of the Standard Model, finite temperature computations are complicated by a hierarchy of zero temperature mass scales, in addition to the usual thermal mass scales. We extend the standard thermal resummations to such a situation, and discuss the 2-loop computations of the Higgs effective potential, and an effective 3d field theory for the electroweak phase transition, without carrying out high or low temperature expansions for the heavy masses. We also estimate the accuracy of the temperature expansions previously used for the MSSM electroweak phase transition in the presence of a heavy left-handed stop. We find that the low temperature limit of dealing with the left-handed stop is accurate up to surprisingly high temperatures. CERN-TH/2000-072 March 2000 [email protected] [email protected]

A ug 2 00 9 Report on the Detailed Calculation of the Effective Potential in Spacetimes with S 1 × R d Topology and at Finite Temperature

In this paper we review the calculations that are needed to obtain the bosonic and fermionic effective potential at finite temperature and volume (at one loop). The calculations at finite volume correspond to S 1 × R d topology. These calculations appear in the calculation of the Casimir energy and of the effective potential of extra dimensional theories. In the case of finite volume correction...

Note on thermodynamic fermion loop under constant magnetic field

The one-loop effective potential of a thermodynamic fermion loop under constant magnetic field is studied. As expected, it can be interpreted literally as a dis-cretized sum of (D−2)-dimensional energy density above the Dirac sea. Large/small mass expansions of the potential are also examined.

Two-loop effective potential for a general renormalizable theory and softly broken supersymmetry

I compute the two-loop effective potential in the Landau gauge for a general renormalizable field theory in four dimensions. Results are presented for the MS renormalization scheme based on dimensional regularization, and for the DR and DR ′ schemes based on regularization by dimensional reduction. The last of these is appropriate for models with softly broken supersymmetry, such as the Minimal...

The Finite Temperature SU(2) Savvidy Model with a Non-trivial Polyakov Loop

We calculate the complete one-loop effective potential for SU(2) gauge bosons at temperature T as a function of two variables: φ, the angle associated with a non-trivial Polyakov loop, and H, a constant background chromomagnetic field. These two variables are indicators for confinement and scale symmetry breaking, respectively. Using techniques broadly applicable to finite temperature field the...

The 2 - loop MSSM finite temperature effective potential with stop condensation

We calculate the finite temperature 2-loop effective potential in the MSSM with stop condensation, using a 3-dimensional effective theory. We find that in a part of the parameter space, a two-stage electroweak phase transition appears possible. The first stage would be the formation of a stop condensate, and the second stage is the transition to the standard electroweak minimum. The two-stage t...
